This is a Knights of Pythias jewel dating from the 1800s, as it is quite large and they went to smaller sizes in the 1900s. Ribbon type brass pin with a 'C' clasp has an inverted triangle dangling from it in silver with foliate engraving. Applied to the triangle are the letters 'F C B' at each corner. The applied center medallion shows a knight with a shield and crossed battle axes and plumes in his helmet. The words Knight of Pythias run across the top part of the medal and the Latin words 'Esta Perpetua' on the shield.
The back has engraved 'S.S.Davis, S.C. copy right 1874, Supreme Lodge as well as the letters 'FCB' and a logo of some kind that I can't make out at all. This is a heavy and substantial piece. This Knights of Pythias jewel is in excellent, original, unpolished condition with soft patina. I don't polish these vintage pieces--I leave that to the buyer to decide. The overall size of this piece is 2 1/2 x 3 1/8 inches. Great early item for the collector of Knights of Pythias or fraternal order collector.
