Type: Memorabilia, Fraternal Publisher: Vintage, unmarked This is a Knights of Pythias Past Chancellor's Jewel in gilt and silver, dated to the 1800s because of its large size and the simple 'C' clasp. Ribbon design brass pin has a 5-sided silver piece dangling from it. The silver frame in engraved with foliate designs. Applied to the frame in gilt metal is an armored knight's helmet with an eagle sitting atop it. Breastplate cives over a shield with crossed battle axes. The shield and breastplate are engraved and stippled and bear the letters 'FCB.'
The ribbon pin is engraved George N. Greene, PC in Old English font. The back is stamped silver with 'Redwood Lodge' engraved below that. On each side are ribbon twists with the left reading 'Presented By' and the right 'No. 11 K of P.' There's more engraving on the top but it's not legible.
This Past Chancellor jewel of the Knights of Pythias is in very good condition, with the exception of wear to the gold wash on the ribbon pin at the top. Otherwise it looks wonderful with lots of tarnish and nice patina. As always, I have not polished this piece, preferring to leave it in original condition. The overall size of this piece is 2 x 3 inches. Great early item for the collector of Knights of Pythias or for fraternal order collector.
