This is a wonderful Victorian era sash pin, dating from the late 1800s or very early 1900s. This is a large and heavy piece in gilded brass with a lovely, scrolled border. This early sash pin has applied designs of flowers and leafy vines and also a hook to make it appear to be a buckle. Sash pins were originally designed, as the name says, to be worn on the sash of a dress. However, due to the size and weight of these brooches, they're generally worn on a coat or blazer. This Victorian sash pin is in wonderful, original condition with the gilding showing very little wear. It has an older style 'C' clasp and does show wear on the back. It's a wonderful and large example of early costume jewelry. Measurements are 3 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches and is slightly domed to accomodate heavy fabrics. |
