This Victorian, hand-carved shell cameo pin has outstanding dimensional carving of a village scene. It dates from the turn of the 19th century. The foreground shows a deeply carved Victorian woman and her dog out for a stroll. There are houses, trees, a garden gate and even someone looking out one of the windows. The setting is an ornate, unmarked goldtone metal with twisted rope border. The cameo itself is in superb condition, but the setting has been altered sometime in the past and I don't think the safety catch is original. The alteration has caused some problems on one side of the setting as seen in the pictures--but the piece is still wonderful. Measurements are 1 5/8 x 2 inches overall, with the cameo at 1 1/2 x 1 5/8 inches. |
