I believe this Victorian match case was designed to be worn on a watch chain or chatelaine and has survived fairly intact. The case is of unmarked gold metal and is probably gold filled. Outside is plain and shiny and the inside is embossed in a circular design. There are still matches marked 'Adams House, Boston Mass' securely inside the case. This Victorian match case is in good, original condition appropriate to age. There is a scratch on one side of the case and blackening inside from burning matches. I would try to use the matches but they're a wonderful part of this piece of Boston memorabilia. Size is 1 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches and has a loop for attaching to a chain or chatelaine. |
