This is a very unusual piece of sentimental or patriotic jewelry, probably made of celluloid and then painted. It is made up of a clear, banner shaped pin with the word 'Son' carved and accented with white paint and will some remnants of the original red paint on the banner. Hanging from the pin is a locket which swivels to open, of clear plastic. The back is plain with a picture of a solder pasted in the center oval depression, probably from WWII. The front is heavily carved and painted with an eagle standing on a red frame with a single blue star with central rhinestone on a white background. There is a wreath around the bottom edge, painted green. The egale has black and white feathers, a yellow beak and a red eye. The color on this portion is exceptional for its age. This WWII piece of memorabilia jewelry is in great, original condition with wear appropriate to its age as illustrated by my pictures. The clasp is molded as part of the pin and only the stem is metal. Size is 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches overall. I have been unable to find anything like this piece listed anywhere. |
