This is a wonderfully ornate sash pin, dating from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It is made of antiqued gilt brass with a curved rectangular base and a scalloped, applied circle, all with bezel-set amethyst glass stones. This sash pin has all the elements of Art Nouveau design, with foliate forms and beautifully curved lines. There is a large, domed and facetted dark amethyst glass center, with 8 smaller rounds set around the circular piece. There are pale amethyst glass pieces at the four corners of the base. This Art Nouveau sash pin in in excellent, original and unpolished condition with wonderful, dark patina. It has the older style, heavy 'C' clasp and pin stem and measures 2 7/8 x 1 7/8 inches and is gently curved to lie perfectly when worn. This piece should be worn on heavier material such as a coat, blazer or even a purse ornament, due to both the weight of the brooch and the thickness of the pin stem. |
