This is an exceptionally fine, hand-carved, and bezel-set shell cameo depicting a Grecian or Roman Lady with a pensive expression. The artist who carved this lovely piece used the natural colors of the cameo to put a blush on her cheeck and accents in her hair and on her loosely draped gown.
This early 1900s shell cameo is in excellent, original and unpolished condition. It has a simple setting with twisted wire accent in unmarked goldtone metal and is most likely gold-filled. Cameo has an early safety clasp and has an overall measurement of 1 5/8 x 2 inches, softly domed with a depth of 3/8 inch. Cameo size is 1 1/2 x 1 7/8 inches and is a wonderful gift item or an addition to a cameo collection. |
