Stunning ceremonial battleaxe or Lochaber chatelaine brooch is marked sterling with white enamel detailing on both parts on the brooch. Very fine, engraved detailing on the shaft and the head is enamel with sterling foliate designs and border.
This early battleaxe chatelaine brooch is in excellent, original and unpolished condition and is a superb quality piece. Pin shaft is quite heavy, slightly bent at the tip. This brooch was probably meant for ceremonial wear.
Size: overall 5 x 1 1/8 inches, axe and pin stem 4 1/2 inches long, sheath 1 5/8 inches long, chain 3 1/2 inches long. |
